Imperial X Self Edge
Inspiration: This is the second collaboration between local denim purveyor Self Edge and Australian denim company Imperial – and the eighth partnership overall for Self Edge. Imperial will produce an unsanforized (i.e., shrink-to-fit) batch of 150 indigo and 70 black jeans sold exclusively at Self Edge (which recently opened a New York City shop).
Degree of actual collaboration: Extremely high. Imperial is only sold through two outlets in North America, and Self Edge works hard to make sure that they make something original together. Every collaboration, according to Self Edge’s Kiya Babzani, should “tell a story.”
Odd detail: For these jeans, the two companies moved production to Japan (instead of Imperial’s Australia base) to get closer to the denim factory.

Comme des Garcons X Converse
Inspiration: Sneakers have been the source for countless collaborations, but this one is a bit more upscale than celebrity skateboarder or sports star lines. After working with Junya Watanabe Man in 2007, Converse has teamed with Comme des Garcons’ Rei Kawakubo to create four 1950s-inspired retro styles – two high-top and two oxford versions.
Degree of actual collaboration: Medium to low. With only four shoes, Kawakubo didn’t exactly break the mold on shoe design. But the high-tops especially have a nice shape.
Odd detail: For sale only where Comme des Garcons’ Play line is sold.
Where to find it: Comme des Garcons stores and select retailers.
Drop date: Late August
